Partisan Triggers - FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about assisted reset triggers, the Disruptor, compatibility, installation, legality, purchasing, and support.

Product basics

Q: What is an assisted reset trigger?

A: An assisted reset trigger is a semi-automatic trigger system that uses the rifle’s recoil, reciprocating bolt carrier group and internal spring pressure to mechanically drive the trigger forward to the reset position after each shot, so one function of the trigger still equals one round fired. The trigger's own spring drives the trigger forward in a standard trigger system, so this truly assists the trigger to be reset quicker. Other common terms for the same mechanism are positive reset and forced reset. The popular abbreviation for all these terms is "FRT". Another one we like is "ARSE" (Assisted Reset Semi Enhanced).

Q: What is the Partisan Disruptor?

A: The Disruptor (US Patent 9,146,067) is an assisted-reset trigger descended from the original TacCon 3MR, designed for ease of manufacturing and fast, hassle-free installation in AR-15-pattern rifles. It requires no modification, gunsmithing, or fitting in standard, in-spec lowers. Built for shooters who value precision and control, it incorporates a three-position selector with Safe, Semi-Automatic, and Enhanced Semi-Automatic modes, delivering a responsive, confident shooting experience while maintaining reliability and safety. It puts smiles on shooters' faces with Freedom Accelerated.

Q: Is the Disruptor a true drop-in cassette?

A: Yes. The Disruptor is a self-contained cassette that drops into compatible AR-15 lowers without permanent modifications or gunsmithing in normal setups.

Q: What rifles are your triggers compatible with?

A: Our triggers are engineered around AR-15-pattern lowers with mil-spec fire-control pocket dimensions. Some billet, 9mm blowback, or non-standard receivers may require fitting or may not be compatible.

Q: Does the Disruptor work with AR 9mm builds?

A: Yes. The Disruptor runs very well in many 9mm AR-pattern builds, provided the lower and fire-control pocket are in-spec and compatible with drop-in cassette triggers. Some tuning of the buffer weight and recoil spring maybe necessary. Some models may need additional modifications, which should only be carried out by a qualified gunsmith. And you may need to use more powerful ammunition - 124 grain NATO standard is a good starting point.

Q: Does the Disruptor work with 300 Blackout?

A: Yes. The Disruptor works very well with properly gassed and tuned 300 Blackout AR-15s. Again, some tuning of the buffer weight and recoil spring may be necessary.

Q: What is a 3-position selector?

A: A 3-position selector is a safety/selector lever with three distinct positions instead of two. For the Disruptor, this means Safe, standard semi automatic, and enhanced semi-automatic (assisted reset) for increased rates of fire while still maintaining one shot per single function of the trigger.

Q: Why is a 3-position selector preferred?

A: Some other assisted reset triggers only have two positions: safe and enhanced semi auto (assisted reset). So the firearm is only able to fire in the enhanced semi auto (assisted reset) mode. A 3-position device, such as the Disruptor, gives greater flexibility: the shooter can choose between standard semi auto and enhanced semi auto (assisted reset). Standard semi auto for precise, slow rate of fire shots (and to conserve ammunition) and enhanced semi auto (assisted reset) for faster rates of fire and bigger smiles but only when desired. It is good to have options.

Q: How long do your drop-in triggers generally last?

A: Our drop-in triggers are engineered as long-life components and, when properly installed and used with quality ammunition in an in-spec rifle, are designed to deliver tens of thousands of rounds of service life without parts replacement. Actual lifespan depends on factors like round count, firing schedule, maintenance, and host rifle tolerances, so we recommend periodic inspection of the trigger group as part of your normal maintenance routine. A maintenance kit will soon be available to extend the life of the Disruptor for a long, long time to come.

Q: Do you currently offer an ambidextrous selector?

A: Not quite yet. We have an ambidextrous selector, along with a one piece mil-spec selector, scheduled for release before the end of April 2026.

Installation and support

Q: What are the key things to keep in mind when using the Disruptor?

A: You must have an M16 style full auto bolt carrier group and use a proper H3 dead blow buffer weight. You must also keep the gun clean and well lubed.

Legality

Q: Are assisted reset triggers legal at the Federal level?

A: Yes. Following a legal ruling in the 5th Circuit, the Department of Justice and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives have confirmed that assisted reset triggers are not machine guns as they only fire one round per single function of the trigger.

Q: Are assisted reset triggers legal in my State?

A: Certain states ban assisted reset triggers or any device which increases the rate of fire of standard semi auto firearms. Partisan Triggers maintains a list of such states and will not ship its products to any such state. But state and local laws do change and it is ultimately the customer's responsibility to ensure compliance with all Federal, State and local laws.

Q: Will you ship to my state?

A: We do not ship into jurisdictions that specifically ban assisted-reset, “rapid-fire,” or similar trigger devices, or any area where our products are restricted by law. You are responsible for knowing and complying with all laws in your state and locality.

Q: Do I need an FFL to buy your triggers?

A: No. Triggers are not firearms under federal law and can ship directly to customers in free states, subject to any local restrictions.

Important: Customers are responsible for compliance with all local, state, and federal laws.
